The history of a coastal town

The region around Crikvenica has been settled since the Stone Age. In ancient times, the Roman station of Ad Turres stood here. During the Middle Ages, the area was shaped by Croatian and Hungarian rulers, as well as the Frankopan princes. With the construction of a monastery in 1412, the beating heart of today’s town was created. The town’s name is derived from the word crikva (“church”).

Crikvenica today – a traditional health spa resort

The flair and charm of the Belle Époque can still be felt throughout the region today – in the architecture, the details and the graceful way of life. Today, Crikvenica has a population of 11,000 and is above all else a particularly popular destination for beach holidays.
